The Rock genre need no introduction. It is intense, highly energetic and always, always loud. There are many genres and sub-genres of rock and there are many rock bands that have strummed their tunes to these genres. However, in this article, we will be looking at some of the Rock Bands that revolutionized music over the decades.

The Beetles

The Beetles is of the most influential bands of all time. With blockbuster songs like ‘Let it be‘ and ‘I want to hold your hand‘ and scores of other hits, this band comprising of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr has changed the whole universe of music for the better.

Led Zeppelin

They are considered the progenitors of heavy metal and hard rock. The band members of this band, namely, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham were musical geniuses of their own right. The meaningful lyrics and the music in hits like ‘Whole Lotta Love‘, ‘Stairway to Heaven‘ and ‘Kashmir‘ still sends goosebumps down our backs.

Pink Floyd

A leading band of the progressive rock genre, this band like all the others need no introduction. The band comprises of geniuses like Syd Barett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Rick Wright and David Gilmour. ‘The Happiest Days of Our Lives‘, ‘Another Brick in the Wall‘, ‘Comfortably Numb‘ are some of the most popular hits. They are still being played at gigs and jams.

Black Sabbath

They are the pioneers of Heavy Metal. The band initially comprised of Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne and later, Ronnie James Dio. They gave hits after hits with songs like ‘Paranoid‘, ‘Ironman‘, ‘War Pig‘ and ‘Black Sabbath‘ amongst many. This band gave the world the first taste of Heavy Metal.

IronMaiden

This band is another giant in the world of Heavy Metal and are pioneers of British Heavy Metal. Some of their most popular hits are ‘Fear of the Dark‘, ‘Rime of the Ancient Mariner‘, ‘Hallowed be Thy Name‘, ‘Alexander the Great‘ amongst many others.

Queen

This band comprises of Freddy Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon. They are famous not just for their songs and albums, but also for their highly entertaining and energetic live performances. Some of their hit songs are’We will Rock You‘, ‘We are the Champions‘ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘ amongst others. Many of them have becomes anthems of empowerment for the common mass.

AC/DC

This Australian band comprising of Angus Young, Stevie Young, Brian Johnson, Phil Rudd and Cliff Williams. Their highly energetic live performances have made them even more endearing to the masses. ‘Highway to Hell‘, ‘Thunderstruck‘ and ‘Back in Black‘ are just a few of their many popular hits.

Guns N’ Roses

GNR is an American Hard Rock band. The band comprises of Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler. They shook the whole world with their wild but very meaningful songs. Their most popular hits are ‘Welcome to the Jungle‘, ‘Paradise City‘, ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine‘, ‘November Rain‘ amongst others. These songs will never fail to make you try to imitate Axl Rose’s dancing.

Nirvana

Though this band survived for only a few years, they left a huge in the world of music. The band comprising of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl left behind soul wrenching songs like ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit‘, ‘The Man Who Sold The World’, and ‘Lithium‘ amongst many others.

These names are just a handful of the many, many Rock Bands that revolutionized Music. However, each and every one of these Rock bands have carved out a niche for the genre in the hearts of the people and in the world of music.
